“NEVER BE SORRY FOR BEING A WOMAN”

From the time of MAHABHARATA to 2022, the situation for women has not changed much. When a girl child is born, she has to struggle to come into this world as most of the girls are killed on the pretext of female foeticide, even if they are born the struggle isn’t easy, they have to fight for being treated equally, for getting a basic education and even the basic amenities which they are entitled to. In India, a girl is said to be a reincarnation of goddess Laxmi but is she even treated as a human?

Females of any age are not safe inside or outside the house. The crimes related to women are increasing day by day. Usually, young girls are restricted by their families, and society for their clothes, and at what time they go out of the house is controlled by them. From time-to-time women are the victim of various crimes such as rape, domestic violence, dowry deaths, and so on. Recently, there was news that a man raped his one-month-old niece. The first question here arises is what shall the parents and society teach that one-month-old girl child, that she should wear proper clothes? , she should have known that she is a girl and an alluring object? The second question is, are the girls safe within the house ?? The answer is NO.

DRAUPADI was molested by her family members, and her dignity was questioned, she was treated as an object. We thought as India is progressing so are the mentality and thoughts of people. But to our dismay still, the answer is NO. The situation has not come to par. In India, a place of diversity, we usually question the girl's character whenever this type of situation comes, the outspoken attitude, her clothing style, and her male friends are a topic of debate. A girl or a woman must prove herself at every point in time or we could say has to go through AGNI PAREEKSHA. There are various reasons which these horrific crimes are committed, and a woman falls prey:

The women are treated as an object and not as a human.

This patriarchal society still believes that there is no existence of women without a man.

Most of the time a person is more fascinated by things that are forbidden.

Even in 2022, there are places where women go out at odd times for defecation as there are no toilets in their houses.

There is a lack of awareness, that families, schools, and institutes should impart sex education to children irrespective of gender.

Indian Judiciary is the last resort of every aggrieved person but the problem occurs when justice is delayed.

The government should come forward in support of women. Various schemes are introduced by them to empower the women such as BETI BACHAO BETI PADHAO which is for uplifting women’s education. EDUCATE A WOMAN AND YOU EDUCATE A FAMILY -education is the basic right of every child. Usually, girls are bereaved of education so that they don’t fight for their rights and can be easily influenced on the pretext of male domination. Now the issue arises of the children who are victims of less than 18 years, for them POCSO ACT, 2012 was introduced to stop sexual abuse and exploitation. There are incidents where the females are not able to describe the issue to their families or where a spectator finds that there is a woman who is being manhandled then the report can be made to helpline number 1091.

Even after all these, there are still some measures that shall be taken to provide a safe environment for women, which include:

Media (print, electronic and social) shall raise the issues, especially those which are not reported.

The schools and institutions shall include sex education in the curriculum.

The women working night shifts shall have the arrangement of cabs provided by the company in which they are working.

The females should be encouraged to learn self-defense.

The laws shall be amended in accordance with today’s nature of the crime.

 CONCLUSION:

Instead of demanding that girls behave according to society, societal norms shall be changed. Girls wearing ethnic or burkha are still prey to a debauched person. It's high time we should stand for the protection and safety of women. The society shall stand against any evil whether the girl belongs to their family or someone else’s- as we say BETIYAN SAANJHI HOTI HAI.  We demand a place that is free from sexual assault, domestic violence, and any kind of sexual abuse.
